GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- The federal Environmental Protection Agency says five upstate New York communities will share $1.4 million to clean up abandoned and contaminated sites.
The money to clean up so-called brownfields is going to Fort Edward, Glens Falls, Ithaca, Rensselaer and Rochester.
Brownfields can pose health problems and create impediments to re-developing areas. EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck said Wednesday the money will help revitalize neighborhoods and create jobs.
